An exhibition on Israel opened in Taipei yesterday to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its founding, with Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌) praising the country as a nation others should learn from its economic prosperity, democracy and technological achievements.

The exhibition, co-organized by the Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TFAM) and the Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei (ISECO), features pictures taken by two Israeli photojournalists Paul Goldman and Davie Rubinger.

Through their lenses, visitors will be able to witness the key moments in Israel's history.

Works of Israeli designer Dan Reisinger are also on display as a part of the show.

On behalf of the 2.6 million residentssof Taipei, Hau also congratulated the State of Israel on its forthcoming 60th anniversary. Israel was founded on May 18, 1948.

Antonio Chen (陳俊賢), director general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department of East Asia Affairs, said the exhibition "makes great contributions to promoting exchanges between Israel and Taiwan."

"It provides the best opportunity for us to understand how the Jewish people transformed Israel into a regional power with a dynamic economy, advanced technology and vibrant culture," Chen said.

Lee Yong-ping (李永萍), commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affairs under the Taipei City Government, said the department will launch more cultural exchange programs between Taiwan and Israel in future.

The exhibition -- "The 60th Anniversary of Israel -- Birth of a State Photo Exhibitions of Paul Goldman and David Rubinger & the Art of Design: Dan Reisinger" will run until June 22.
