| In Saturday's article "FAT seeks court protection from bank creditors" on page 1, we reported that Far Eastern Air Transport had filed for bankruptcy at the Taipei District Court on Friday. What the airliner applied for was reorganization. We regret the error. |

Business class tickets for travel on the high speed rail will be discounted by 20 percent from March 1, the Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) announced on Friday.
Senior citizens, passengers under 12 and groups -- who were already eligible for a 5 percent discount on business class tickets -- will now enjoy a 25 percent discount.
Ted Chia (賈先德), assistant manager at THSRC's Public Affairs Division, said business class -- which usually occupies one of the 12 passenger cars on an average high speed train -- was experiencing low occupancy because of the short travel time. The company hopes the discount would fill up some of the empty seats, he said.
"There is no expiration date for this offer," Chia said. "Senior citizens can take advantage of this [new offer] on top of the original 5 percent discount for more spacious seating, which will help make the journey all the more pleasant."
With the discount, the price of a one-way business class ticket for the 96 minute to two-hour trip between Taipei and Tsoying would fall from NT$2,440 to NT$1,950, or just NT$460 more than the economy class fare, THSRC said in a statement.
Touting the advantages of traveling business class, Chia said Taipei, Taichung, and Tsoying all had ticket counters dedicated to business class passengers that provide faster and more convenient service. He also said that clients in the business class also receive free coffee, tea, or bottled water and have access to personal entertainment systems.
