Tainan Police try to crack mysterious tein deaths case

    By Rich Chang

Tainan police were investigating a murder case involving a wealthy female farmer who was found dead with an unidentified dead man at her side in a pool near her fruit farm.

Ko Yu-mei (柯玉梅), a resident of Nanhua Township (南化), Tainan County, went missing on Thursday.

Her body was found in a pool approximately 2km from the farm on Saturday afternoon.

As Ko, 60, and her husband, surnamed Wang () were rich, police said they suspected the murder may have involved a kidnapping attempt.

Police said Ko's scooter had been found overturned near the pool, with the key still in the ignition. Her hat was also found near the scooter, indicating the victim may have been attacked before falling into the pool.

The unidentified man, police said, could be the suspect, who may have fallen into the pool with Ko or been pulled in by her.

A postmortem examination was conducted yesterday to determine whether the two victims had drowned or been killed before falling into the pool, police said.

Wang and his wife were working on their farm on Thursday when they saw a strange van on the premises, police quoted Wang as saying.

Wang told police that Ko rode her scooter to see what the visitors wanted. Wang said he did not see the van leave the farm.

Township residents then launched a search for Ko, whose body was only found on Saturday.
