Pingtung police yesterday found the body of a woman who went missing early last month and arrested her former husband on suspicion of murder.

Chen's body was found yesterday afternoon 600m down in a valley near the Central Cross-Island Highway.
A Pingtung police officer, Wei Ping-nan (魏炳南), said that the victim's sister told police on March 5 that Chen had been missing since going on a trip with her ex-husband on March 2.
She told police that Huang owed Chen some money and they often quarreled about the matter. She said she suspected Huang had hurt her sister.
She also told police that Huang, a cook, married her sister, a polio sufferer, four years ago.
On March 12, police questioned Huang, who denied meeting up with his ex-wife last month.
Chen's sister then told police that Chen and Huang had met at the Guanmiao (
Police followed this tip by checking security cameras around the service area and saw a video shot of Huang pushing a wheelchair to help Chen into a restroom at the service area on March 2.
Last Thursday, Huang was summoned for questioning again and finally admitted he pushed his wife down a valley near the highway, Wei said.
Huang told police that he and Chen had arrived at the service area in separate cars, and then traveled in a single vehicle to the mountain highway, Wei said.
The police officer added that Huang admitted to putting sleeping pills into Chen's drinks, hoping she would fell asleep but that she was still awake late that evening.
At around 3am on March 3, Huang allegedly dragged Chen out of the car and pushed her down the valley. Huang then drove her car some distance and pushed it off the highway, waited for about 10 minutes and then threw Chen's bags and clothes down as well, Wei said.
Police on Friday found the abandoned car and Chen's belongings, he said.
Chen's sister told police although Chen was handicapped, she earned good money from operating a lottery shop in Pingtung and working as an insurance broker.
She said Huang had often asked Chen for large amounts of money during their marriage.

A group of Taiwanese-American and Tibetan-American students at Harvard University on Saturday disrupted Chinese Ambassador to the US Xie Feng’s (謝鋒) speech at the school, accusing him of being responsible for numerous human rights violations. Four students — two Taiwanese Americans and two from Tibet — held up banners inside a conference hall where Xie was delivering a speech at the opening ceremony of the Harvard Kennedy School China Conference 2024. In a video clip provided by the Coalition of Students Resisting the CCP (Chinese Communist Party), Taiwanese-American Cosette Wu (吳亭樺) and Tibetan-American Tsering Yangchen are seen holding banners that together read:

Heat advisories were in effect for nine administrative regions yesterday afternoon as warm southwesterly winds pushed temperatures above 38°C in parts of southern Taiwan, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said. As of 3:30pm yesterday, Tainan’s Yujing District (玉井) had recorded the day’s highest temperature of 39.7°C, though the measurement will not be included in Taiwan’s official heat records since Yujing is an automatic rather than manually operated weather station, the CWA said. Highs recorded in other areas were 38.7°C in Kaohsiung’s Neimen District (內門), 38.2°C in Chiayi City and 38.1°C in Pingtung’s Sandimen Township (三地門), CWA data showed. The spell of scorching
