A launching ceremony for a new cruise ship named Queen of the Great River, which was built for sightseeing tours on Tamsui River, will be held in Kaohsiung Harbor tomorrow.

The 500-tonne ship, built by San Yang Shipbuilding Co and carrying a price tag of NT$150 million (US$4.5 million), will be turned over to the Great River Tourism Co.

Measuring 40.5m long and 10m wide with a maximum speed of 12 knots, the ship can accommodate up to 300 passengers.

The new ship will join the company's touring operations in early May, a company spokesman said.

A two-hour boat ride will cost NT$1,500 per person on weekdays and NT$1,800 on holidays. Discounts will also be offered to children and people over 65.
