Police yesterday arrested one of two men suspected of raping a medical school student last Sunday after abducting her near the Jiantan mass rapid transit (MRT) station in Taipei.

Taipei police officer Ho Ming-chou (¦ó©ú¬w), who is in charge of the case, told a press conference that police had arrested Huang Chieh-hung (¬x³ÇÂE), 30, and were looking for another suspect, Lin Shih-huang (ªL¥@·×).

DNA

Police identified Huang by samples of DNA left on the victim's body and his fingerprint on tape used to tie the victim, Ho said.

Ho said Huang confessed the crime and said he and his friend had raped the student because they wanted sex.

Huang told police that he and Lin were friends and said the rape was Lin's idea.

Huang is a waiter at a restaurant and lives with his girlfriend, Ho said.

Ho said Huang had a criminal record of drug abuse.

NIGHT MARKET

Police said the victim was walking from Shilin Night Market toward a motorbike parking lot opposite the No. 2 exit of the MRT's Chientan Station shortly after midnight on Sunday when the suspects grabbed her and forced her into a car.

They drove to Tachia Riverside Park. The men raped the student and left her naked in the park.

A couple driving through the park found the student and helped report the case to the police.
