Suspected serial rapist admits to assaulting girl

The Banciao District Court yesterday ordered the detention of a suspected serial sexual attacker who confessed to having assaulted a girl on Wednesday after being released on bail earlier this month.

Chiang Ke-hui (張克輝), 27, was detained in January last year by the Banciao District Court on suspicion he sexually assaulted three girls from elementary schools in Jhonghe (中和), Taipei County.

Because Chiang is thought to have attacked his victims after school, he has been dubbed the "after school wolf."

The Banciao District Court released Chiang last month pending further investigation.

However, Chiang has now confessed that late on Wednesday night he forced an eight-year-old girl to accompany him to his apartment where he sexually assaulted her.

The girl was later discovered in the street by her aunt who said her genitals showed signs of abuse.

Police reviewed surveillance footage from cameras in the area and then arrested Chiang at his apartment in Jhonghe on Saturday.

Chiang told police he could not stop himself from sexually assaulting little girls.

Police said Chiang immigrated to the US with his parents when he was nine years old, but returned to Taiwan a few years ago. Chiang's father runs a restaurant in the US and Chiang has worked for restaurants in Taiwan.

Police said they had found a large number of adult movies in Chiang's apartment and believed he was addicted to pornography.

All four of the girls Chiang is suspected of assaulting live on the same street as him and, before he was arrested in January last year, Chiang visited the victims' families and warned them not to go to the police.

Police said the members of the community had urged that Chiang be detained.
