Expect it to get colder from today: weather bureau

By Shelley Shan  /  STAFF REPORTER

Although Taiwan has experienced some unusually warm winter days this week, temperatures today and tomorrow are expected to drop slightly as a cold front gradually approaches, the Central Weather Bureau said yesterday.

The bureau's forecast yesterday said that starting from tomorrow, afternoon showers will hit the northern and northeastern regions of Taiwan, as well as the mountainous areas in the central, eastern and southern regions. Rainy days will likely last until Saturday.

The bureau forecast that the temperature next week will drop to 15?C in the north and center of the country, 17?C in the south and 16?C in the east.

The bureau continued to issue heavy fog alerts to residents in western Taiwan, Kinmen and Matsu. The fog has caused airports on both islands to shut down.

The bureau said that weather during the holidays will be unstable. The nation can expect two cold fronts this week, with the first one arriving today. The second front is likely to arrive on Thursday.
