Wang's legislative visit caught on film

The day before fugitive Rebar Asia Pacific Group chairman Wang You-theng (王又曾) absconded to China, he was captured on film paying a visit to Legislative Speaker Wang Jin-pyng (王金平) by a documentary filmmaker.

Wang Jin-pyng acknowledged yesterday that Wang You-theng had visited him in his office the day before the tycoon fled the country.

His comment came after filmmaker Niu Cheng-tse (鈕承澤) released a clip of the Rebar chief arriving at the legislature.

"Well, he was here," Wang Jin-pyng said. "But he simply came to say hello. Nothing else."

"He did not mention anything about his financial problems or ask me for any kind of help," Wang Jin-pyng said.

Niu said that he was shooting footage for a documentary titled The Way to Survive in front of the Legislative Yuan on Dec. 29 when his camera caught Wang You-theng stepping out of his car and entering the building. He described Wang You-theng's arrival as "a big entrance."

"He rode in his big black Mercedes limousine and pulled over in front of the Legislative Yuan. It seemed to me that he was no stranger to Legislative Yuan employees because they all treated him like an important guest," Niu said.

He said he was so focused on the shoot that he didn't pay much attention to Wang You-theng's arrival.
