The number of Taiwanese students studying in the US rose 7.6 percent in the 2005 to 2006 period, representing a total of 27,876 and ranking sixth among foreign students in the US, according to statistics released yesterday by the American International Education Foundation. The statistics showed that Indian students ranked first among foreign students in the US in terms of number, accounting for 76,503, followed by Chinese students at 62,582, South Korean students at 58,847, Japanese students at 38,712 and Canadian students at 28,202. However, the total number of foreign students in the US declined 0.05 percent from the previous year to 564,766. California had the most number of foreign students (75,385), followed by New York (64,283), Texas (46,869) and Massachusetts (28,007).
