Police yesterday rescued a teacher and 15 children held hostage in a preschool in Nantou County. A man suspected of suffering from mental disease allegedly barged into one of the classrooms in a kindergarten at around 4pm, fired off two gas bombs, and held the teacher and kids hostage. Police tried to rescue the captives by breaking one of the windows, rushing in and fighting with the suspect. They arrested the suspect after shooting him on the leg. All 15 children were rescued and safe, but slightly traumatized by the incident. "He kept beating the teacher again and again," a tearful kid was quoted as saying in a news clip broadcast by TVBS last night. The teacher and some of the kids who suffered minor injuries were sent to a hospital for treatment. Police were probing allegations that the suspect had a financial dispute with the teacher.
