The Kaohsiung City Urban Development Bureau is launching a beautification project to fund its urban renovation plans. Bureau officials yesterday called for submissions by Nov. 20. The project -- entitled "facade modification" -- is aimed at improving Kaohsiung's appearance and environment. The project will also complement the city's inauguration of its MRT system and its role as host of the 2009 World Games, the bureau said. Any city residents with ideas about renovating Chungshan Road in the section between Shinchung Road and Wufu Road, Mingshan Road and Datung Road, and the section of Boai Road between Jehe Street and Wenzi Road are encouraged to submit applications. The project received a subsidy of NT$10 million (US$305,000) from the central government, bureau Director Chen Tian-jinn (陳添進) said. Chen said that the city government was offering grant awards of up to NT$400,000 for the renovation of a building complex, NT$15,000 for a single building over five stories and NT$30,000 for open space without buildings.
