Taiwan Quick Take: Gangster claims innocence

    STAFF WRITER WITH CNA

Gangster Tien Chen-yu (田震宇) told police yesterday that he did not kidnap La New Bears pitching coach Lin Kuang-hung (林光宏). Lin told a press conference earlier this month that he was kidnapped and ordered to instruct his team to throw the play-off series against the President Lions. Tien, a member of the notorious Bamboo Union gangster organization, turned himself in to the Criminal Investigation Bureau at around 1pm yesterday. Tien admitted that he had bet a huge amount of money on the Chinese Professional Baseball League's play-offs, but denied any role in the kidnapping. Tien said that he and Lin are good friends who see each other often.
