Chefs from nine countries prepared beef noodles in an international competition held in the Taipei World Trade Center on Sunday as part of the Taipei International Beef Noodle Festival, the second year of the event, held by the Department of Economic Development, according to a spokesman for the department. Teams from Canada, the US, France, Singapore, Italy, Korea, New Zealand, Thailand and Japan took part in the competition and were evaluated by Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九), Netherlands Trade and Investment Office Representative Menno Goedhart, among others. Goedhart's wife also prepared "Dutch-style" beef noodles. Ma expressed his appreciation for the various types of noodles and said he was pleased to see Taipei endeavoring to revive traditional industries.
