KMT's Sun accuses DPP's Frank Hsieh of accepting bribes

By Shih Hsiu-chuan  /  STAFF REPORTER

A Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) lawmaker yesterday accused Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Taipei mayoral candidate Frank Hsieh (謝長廷) of taking bribes.

KMT Legislator Sun Ta-chien (孫大千) told a press conference that the Kaohsiung Development Association, a civil organization, had been used by Hsieh as a money-laundering channel.

Sun said that former chairman of the association Chang Chi-jung (張志榮) had admitted to taking bribe to help a firm secure a contract for part of the city's Mass Rapid Transit system's construction.

DPP Legislator Kuan Bi-ling (管碧玲) rebutted Sun's accusation.

"The accusation is old news. The investigation into the association by the Kaohsiung City Field Office [of the Ministry of Justice's Bureau of Investigation] closed three years ago and no illegality was found," Kuan said.
