A second fatal case of dengue hemorrhagic fever this year was reported on Tuesday, Center of Disease Control (CDC) Deputy Director Chou Chih-hao (周志浩) said yesterday. Like the first case, it was reported in Kaohsiung. As of Monday, seven people were being treated for dengue hemorrhagic fever in hospitals, with more than 500 confirmed local dengue cases, he said. The latest death involved a 76-year-old man who started showing symptoms on Oct. 18 and was later hospitalized. He was diagnosed with suspected dengue hemorrhagic fever on Friday, and the infection was confirmed on Saturday.
