Taiwan Quick Take: Tunnel to close for drill

The National Freeway Bureau yesterday announced that the Hsuehshan Tunnel will be closed for four hours from 10pm next Thursday to allow emergency workers to carry out evacuation and disaster prevention drills. A bureau spokesman said that plans to hold the exercises from 8pm to midnight next Thursday were changed due to the Ilan County Government's concern that motorists might be inconvenienced. The two main tunnels for eastbound and westbound traffic will both be closed during the exercises.
