Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) said yesterday that no timetable existed for the launch of the high-speed railway and that it will be opened to passengers only after passing all safety inspections. In response to an inquiry by People First Party Legislator Lin Hui-kuan (林惠官) during a legislative session on whether the recently completed high-speed railway would be inaugurated on Nov. 1 as scheduled, Su said the system will not operate until the it has been thoroughly inspected and safety is completely ensured. Minister of Transportation and Communications Tsai Duei (蔡堆), also present at the legislative session, said safety inspections and test runs were underway and the railway's contractor had promised to ensure the line will be safe for public use by the grand opening.
