Taiwan Quick Take: Chen's daughter returns

STAFF WRITER

President Chen Shui-bian's (陳水扁) daughter returned home yesterday from a short-term study program in the US. Chen Hsing-yu (陳幸妤) tried to maintain a low profile after she was spotted by the media at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport early yesterday morning, the Central News Agency reported. She was escorted by National Security Bureau personnel, aviation police and immigration officials, the report said. Chen Hsing-yu, a practicing dentist, left for the US on Tuesday to attend a six-day training program on tooth implants in New York City. Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Legislator Chiu Yi (邱毅) previously criticized prosecutors for letting her leave the country, saying that her trip was part of preparations for the first family to abscond. Seven female Democratic Progressive Party legislators then challenged Chiu to resign if Chen Hsing-yu returned home.
