Taiwan Quick Take: Jusco execs visit Taiwan

Executives from Japan's hypermarket chain store Jusco visited Taiwanese farm produce and aquatic products dealers on Friday and promised to evaluate the possibility of selling their products in their stores. The visit was organized by the National Animal Industry Foundation (NAIF) with the purpose of expanding the market share of the nation's farm produce in Japan, a spokesman for the foundation said. Statistics compiled by the Council of Agriculture show that Japan is the biggest export market for the nation's farm produce, accounting for 27.3 percent of farm produce exports in the first half of this year. Jusco belongs to Japan's biggest retail group, AEON Co Ltd, and is one of the most important retail stores in Japan, with nearly 300 outlets around the country, a NAIF spokesman said. "The Jusco executives are very impressed by our Taiwanese specialties," the spokesman said, adding that the products they were taking back for further evaluation included hot spring eggs, wine-steamed eggs, Taiwanese goose and chicken products, and clam essence soup. NAIF is also considering organizing a Taiwanese Food Festival in Japan next June.
