Taiwan Quick Take: Ceremony venue unchanged

The Presidential Office yesterday put to rest speculation that the regular venue for the Double Ten National Day ceremony would be changed. Presidential Office Spokesman David Lee (李南陽) said it was a priority to maintain law and order at the festivities to safeguard the nation's image and reputation. "We have never thought of changing the venue," he said. Lee was responding to speculation that the festivities, which are conventionally held in front of the Presidential Office, would be moved to Taipei's Zhongshan Hall in a bid to avoid confrontation with protesters led by former Democratic Progressive Party chairman Shih Ming-teh (施明德), who has announced that he will lead thousands of people to "besiege" the Presidential Office building on Oct. 10.
