Taiwan Quick Take: Minister agrees to plan

Minister of Justice Morley Shih (施茂林) said yesterday he agreed with Taipei County Commissioner Chou Hsi-wei (周錫瑋) that Taipei Prison should be relocated. Chou paid a visit to the Ministry of Justice, asking the minister to relocate Taipei Prison, which is located in Tucheng City (土城), Taipei County, as soon as possible. Chou said that since the Ministry of National Defense had agreed to relocate an arsenal located in Tucheng, he suggested that a new prison could be built at that location. Chou said that Taipei Prison is close to downtown Tucheng, and had impacted on the development of the city. Shih said the removal of the prison was a ministry policy, and he would work with the Taipei County Government to find a new location for the prison.
