Car Free Day lures participants from around the nation


City and county governments around the country will join forces on Sept. 23 to organize a series of events to celebrate this year's International Car Free Day.

It is estimated that 16 cities and counties will organize events involving around 30,000 people.

Taipei County Commissioner Chou Hsi-wei (周錫瑋) said that to encourage students to go to school on foot, the county government will hold a "walk to school week."

Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) will lead residents on a 9km bike ride.
