Taipei will host the Seventh Cross-Strait Conference on Preventive Medicine on Sunday, the Taipei City Department of Health said yesterday. Society of Preventive Medicine in Taiwan secretary-general Wang Chung-kuei (王鍾貴)said preventing liver and intestinal cancer will be the focus in the conference. He said American AIDS researcher David Ho (何大一) will deliver a speech on the development of a vaccine against AIDS and about 150 researchers from Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau and China will publish research papers on infectious disease prevention, chronic illness prevention, food sanitation and cancer prevention. New epidemics have a serious impact on public health, the department said, adding that the cross-strait exchange of information is particularly important because Taiwan and China are so close.
