Taiwan Quick Take: Freeway rest areas ranked

STAFF WRITER WITH AGENCIES

Of all the rest areas along Taiwan's three freeways, the Chungli (中壢) Rest Area has been selected as the best for its beautifully designed garden and modern business facilities. The National Freeway Bureau, which six years ago began to rank the nation's rest areas, said Hsin Tung Yang Co, which operates the Chungli Rest Area, this year has created a "modern Eden" and claimed that its springs and flowerbeds "delight travelers." The rest area, on the Sun Yat-sen Freeway, was chosen as the best because it has a "business office for people on the go" for the convenience of businesspeople, according to the bureau. Second prize went to the Shihding (石碇) Rest Area on the Chiang Wei-shui Freeway. Third-ranked was the Tungshan (東山) Rest Area on the Formosa Freeway, which features large banyan trees, sleek architecture and a shopping mall. The bureau said the top ranked rest areas are run by professionals who have invested in turning them into scenic spots fit for both travelers and businesspeople.
