Taiwan Quick Take: Malaria cases on the rise

The number of imported malaria cases for the year has increased to 20 as of Aug. 26, up 17.65 percent from the level for the same period last year, according to the Department of Health (DOH). DOH officials said that the malaria patients were infected while traveling in Southeast Asian and African countries. Statistics released by the Center for Disease Control showed that four patients were infected in Papua New Guinea, two each in Indonesia, Myanmar, Malawi and Burkina Faso, and one each in Cambodia, India, the Philippines, Thailand, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Uganda and Cameroon.
