Taiwan Quick Take: Ma still mad over flag flap

Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) yesterday again condemned China again for seizing Taiwan's flag from Taipei swimming champions during a recent sports tournament. The comments came after Ma received Taiwanese athletes who returned late on Thursday night from the 2006 International Children's Games in Thailand. Chinese sports officials seized the Republic of China flags from two Taipei swimming champions attending the event in Bangkok after they wrapped them around their shoulders as they walked toward the stage to collect their gold medals last Saturday. After Taipei Deputy Mayor King Pu-tsung (金溥聰) lodged a complaint with competition officials and the team from Beijing, the organizer decided to ban participating nations from bringing national flags to next year's games, and will only allow "city flags" to be used in the competition.
