Taiwan Quick Take: DPP legislator scolds Lu

STAFF WRITER WITH CNA

Vice President Annette Lu's (呂秀蓮) recent comment that she already possessed the capability to assume the presidency sparked concern yesterday among Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislators. DPP Legislator Lin Cho-shui (林濁水) said yesterday that it was inappropriate for Lu to make such remarks while President Chen Shui-bian (陳水扁) is facing mounting pressure to step down. In an interview published in the latest edition of Asia Weekly, a Chinese-language magazine, Lu said that she was highly skilled in handling national affairs, second only in ability to Chen, and had experience with national campaigning. Asked yesterday by reporters whether she was ready for the presidency, Lu hastily walked away saying only "No, no."
