A couple broke their one-year-old daughter's neck and killed her while fighting over who could hold her, a newspaper reported yesterday. The incident occurred last November, but it took police eight months to determine that the girl had been killed by her parents, the report said. The girl's father, surnamed Huang, was taken into custody yesterday, the Liberty Times (the Taipei Times' sister paper) said. Huang and his wife took their daughter, who was in a coma, to hospital on Nov. 19, but the girl died two days later. The Huangs claimed that the toddler had injured herself falling out of bed, but doctors and police were suspicious because she had a broken neck but no surface wounds. Huang only recently confessed that he had accidentally broken his daughter's neck as he was trying to snatch her from his wife, who would not let him hold her. The husband now faces homicide charges.
