Taipei Veterans General Hospital yesterday announced it had performed the successful removal of a main artery aneurysm on an 88-year-old patient. The patient, according to the cardiac surgeon in charge, Chang Hsiao-huang (張效煌), was the oldest to have received this kind of surgery. She was rushed to the hospital from Ilan County through the Hsuehshan Tunnel. Chang said the operation is especially tough for elderly patients because the main artery connects to several very important blood vessels.
