Two Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) lawmakers yesterday demanded Mega Financial Holding Co chairman Cheng Shen-chih (鄭深池) resign for changing the name of his company from International Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) to Mega International Commercial Bank. ICBC joined Mega Financial Group on Dec. 31, 2002, and was merged into the group's Chiao Tung Bank yesterday. The lawmakers said the name change was made to eliminate "China" from the bank's name, a move they said pandered to President Chen Shui-bian's (陳水扁) call for the government to carry out a policy of breaking away from China. "ICBC was a firm with a good reputation for more than 100 years and therefore its name is valuable," Tsai said.
