Vice Minister of National Defense Ko Cheng-heng (柯承亨) will attend an annual US-Taiwan defense industry conference to be held on Sept. 10-12 in Denver, Colorado, according to military sources. The conference, the fifth of its kind since 2002, is organized by the US-Taiwan Business Council, a private US association dedicated to promoting trade, economic and financial relations between Taiwan and the US. The ministry's previous practice was to send its vice minister in charge of armament affairs to the meeting. If Ko, who is in charge of military policy and strategic affairs, attends the meeting, it would set a precedent. Ministry officials said that as the conference will focus on themes related to defense industry policy, it would not be unusual to send Ko to the meeting. Ko is expected to deliver a keynote speech on Taiwan's policy toward defense industry development and its stance on arms procurement at the opening ceremony.
