Premier Su Tseng-chang (蘇貞昌) yesterday exhorted the country to strive to win the right to host the world design conference authorized by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design in 2011. Hosting the global conference would help raise the nation's design standards and capabilities as well as improve the country's international image, Su said during a meeting at the Industrial Development Bureau. The premierasked the Ministry of Economic Affairs to work with the Government Information Office and other relevant agencies to coordinate resources from the official, industrial, academic and research sectors for the purpose of win the right to sponsor the meeting. Su also gave a thumbs up to the progress of the government-authorized Designed in Taiwan project. Began last year, the project has yielded results this year in efforts to win prizes in international design contests, as well as to upgrade industrial design ability and promote public recognition of industrial design, the premier said.
