The Kaohsiung City Government is planning to hold a beer and food festival at Chichin (旗津) port every weekend starting this week, allowing the public to get a taste of its delicious seafood and beer in a cozy context, according to a city government spokesman. The municipal Marine Bureau has been renovating surrounding areas of Chichin port on one of the islets off Kaohsiung, the spokesman said, adding that the city government hopes to transform the fishing port into a multi-purpose park suitable for a host of leisure activities. In preparation for the food and beer festival's opening today, the bureau has grown flowers and plants and installed large-scale decorations in public spaces near the port, the spokesman said. Starting today, visitors will be able to enjoy seafood such as squid, tuna and sanma -- three of the most popular types of fish in the Kaohsiung area -- outdoors in garden-like surroundings, with a summer breeze and seascape, he said.
