Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Spokeswoman Cheng Li-wen (鄭麗文) yesterday said she would soon move out of her current home, which was provided for free by a businessman.
"Taiwan is facing critical problems that require our attention. I don't want people to shift their focus because of me... I will move out within a month," she said at KMT headquarters.
Business link
Cheng made the remarks following a story that was published on Wednesday in the Chinese-language Next magazine.
The report said that Cheng's residence belonged to Chou Hsin-yi (周信義), a businessman who is known to maintain good relationships with various politicians.
Cheng said she had not done Chou any favors in return for his patronage.
Facing growing attention from the media however, she decided to find a new place to live as soon as possible.
"I don't want [KMT] Chairman Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) to be bothered by this matter," she said.
Ma yesterday declined to comment, saying that the party was already looking into the issue.
China trip
In addition to Cheng, the integrity of a trio of KMT lawmakers has also come into question because of a report in the same magazine.
Next magazine carried a story which claimed that during a trip to China, KMT legislators Ko Chun-hsiung (柯俊雄), Wu Ing-yi (吳英毅) and Chang Sho-wen (張碩文) had visited a lounge bar where they were entertained by five bargirls .
The report said that the trip, led by Ko, was initially organized to inspect the implementation of the small three links -- the direct routes that connect the outlying islands of Kinmen and Matsu with Fujian Province in China.
Juan Kang-meng (阮剛猛), the head of the party's Evaluation and Discipline Committee, said yesterday that the committee was investigating the two cases.
The committee would ask Cheng and the legislators to present written reports explaining the matters.
Ma said that the party would make public the results of the commiittee's investigation.
