The Investigation Bureau under the Ministry of Justice busted a fake medicine operation in Taichung and seized 300kg of counterfeit drugs, a spokesman for the bureau said yesterday. The spokesman said a bureau mobile unit in Taichung raided a warehouse and a distribution center in Taichung the previous night after receiving a tip-off about the operations. Investigators seized 1 million fake pills of various medicines, including Viagra, a drug for male impotence; Reductil, a weight-control medicine; Seirogan, a herbal medicine for stomach problems; and nimetazepam, which is used in the treatment of stress and insomnia. According to the spokesman, a man surnamed Wu was arrested. The man has a record of previous offenses involving fake medicines and his extended family have also been involved, police said.
