Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Spokeswoman Cheng Li-wen (鄭麗文) defended herself yesterday against a report questioning her integrity for living in accommodation provided by an entertainment business tycoon. According to a report yesterday in the Chinese-language Next magazine, Cheng's residence belongs to Chou Hsin-yi (周信義), a businessman who is known to maintain good relationships with various politicians. Cheng denied that she had ever done Chou any favors in return for his patronage. "I've been living here for several years. It's not a secret ... [Chou] has never asked me for any favors, and I wouldn't be able to help him anyway" she said. Cheng said the residence was originally used as a meeting place for the KMT and that she had taken it over after moving to Taipei from Kaohsiung, and had lived there ever since.
