Police warned members of the public yesterday that for the sake of their own safety, they should not go to the Hualien County shoreline to watch typhoon-generated giant waves pounding the east coast. As Typhoon Kaemi's 200km radius approaches the nation, it has generated massive surf on the Hualien coast, which has in turn attracted thrill-seekers who want to stand close to the shoreline to enjoy the show. Local police said that to prevent accidents, they have posted signs warning people that the stormy seas should only be viewed from a safe distance.
