A Taiwanese woman, surnamed Tseng, was arrested at CKS International Airport last Thursday while attempting to smuggle heroin into the country from Cambodia, aviation police authorities said yesterday. The high-grade heroin had been concealed in seven bags of preserved plum candies, police said. Customs officers became suspicious after finding packets of "preserved plums" in Tseng's luggage, since the sweets are usually made in Hong Kong and would be unlikely to have been brought in from Cambodia. Officials said inspectors found 2.819kg of heroin in Tseng's luggage. She reportedly told aviation police that she had tried to smuggle the drugs in to pay off her debts.
