Representatives from 51 public and private establishments in Taipei signed a joint declaration yesterday to make public their promise to conserve energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The "I Love Cool Earth Declaration" was signed in response to the implementation last year of the Kyoto Protocol which is aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The signatories included 23 schools, 10 government agencies, eight department stores, five hospitals and five hotels. According to the Taipei City Government's Department of Environmental Protection, the household, business and transportation sectors are responsible for the largest amount of greenhouse gas emissions in the city.
