Taiwan Quick Take: Zidane remains in spotlight

The French Institute in Taipei celebrated Bastille Day yesterday with a cocktail party at a downtown hotel, and soccer player Zinedine Zidane was apparently the central topic of discussion at the party. Participants in the celebration, most of whom were Taiwanese and French businesspeople and politicians, including Minister of Foreign Affairs James Huang (黃志芳), were keen to discuss Zidane's red-card exit in last Sunday's World Cup final in Germany and France's defeat by Italy. Commenting on the incident, French Institute Director Jean-Claude Poimboeuf said he felt "disappointed" by the result but added that "no sports event can spoil the joyful moment of the Bastille Day celebration."
