Sniffer dogs at rock fest
Police have again recruited drug-sniffing dogs to help them maintain order at an upcoming rock festival in Taipei County, officials said yesterday. Taipei County's Rueifang (瑞芳) Precinct chief said he had borrowed four dogs to help crack down on drugs at the Ho Hai Yan Rock Festival that will start in Gongliao Township (貢寮) on Friday. The police will use the dogs in an attempt to crack down on the alleged rampant use and sale of drugs at the beach raves and parties that take place each spring in Kenting, Pingtung County. The four dogs have been trained to detect marijuana, heroin, opium, ecstasy and ketamine, police said. They admitted, however, that they had not seized any drugs over the several years that the Ho Hai Yan Rock Festival has taken place.
