Taiwan Quick Take: Lu's eye problem returns

Vice President Annette Lu (呂秀蓮) canceled her activities yesterday due to a long-standing eye problem. The Presidential Office issued a statement yesterday morning informing the media that Lu had suffered a relapse of her eye problem and received treatment at the National Taiwan University Hospital. Lu has been suffering from xerophthalmia, an eye disease that causes dryness of the eyeball and makes bright lights painful to be around. Lu has also received medical treatment for a scratched cornea, an injury that commonly afflicts xerophthalmia sufferers.
