Taiwan Quick Take: Foster families needed

    Tuesday, Jun 27, 2006, Page 3

The Taiwan Fund for Children and Families is seeking 300 foster families to provide care for orphaned, abused or neglected children, a spokesman for the Christian charity said yesterday. The foundation is cooperating with Family Mart in soliciting caring families to join its foster care program, the spokesman said, adding that those willing to offer family foster care could register at any of the 1,900 Family Mart convenience stores around the country by Sept. 25. Citing the results of a recent Taiwan Fund survey, the spokesman said that around three children or teens must leave their birth families each day, but only an average of 0.7 new foster families are available each day. "We hope the new foster family recruitment program can help bring the ratio down to below 1 to 1.5," the spokesman said. The Taiwan Fund can be contacted by calling (04)2206-1234 or visiting its Web site at www.ccf.org.tw.
