Taiwan Quick Take: World Cup costs a fortune

A Kaohsiung man lost NT$450,000 because he was so exhausted from staying up late on Wednesday night to watch a World Cup match that he slept through a break-in at his home. The Kaohsiung City Police Department said the Hsinhsing district resident, surnamed Chen went to bed around 3am yesterday and did not wake up until a neighbor rang his doorbell to tell him that the grille outside his windows had been cut. Chen then discovered that a brief case with the money in it had been stolen. He told the police he did not hear anything because he was too tired after watching the game. Police said they have collected few clear fingerprints at Chen's home and are now reviewing footage from the building's video security system in an effort to nab the burglar.
