Thursday, Jun 22, 2006, Page 3
The Taipei District Prosecutors' Office said yesterday that it would subpoena Huang Fang-yen (黃芳彥) -- a close friend of the first family who an opposition legislator has accused of passing a huge amount of gift vouchers to the first lady from a businessman -- for questioning as a witness. Lin Chin-tsun (林錦村), a spokesman for the Taipei District Prosecutor's Office, said Huang, a deputy superintendent of the Shin Kong Hospital in Taipei who has gone to the US for health reasons, would be asked to appear at a Taipei court on June 30 as a witness in the probe into the alleged scandal surrounding first lady Wu Shu-jen (吳淑珍). Lin said the prosecutors decided to ask Huang to return to Taipei earlier after they gathered further evidence related to the case. Huang has asked for a leave of absence from his job until next month.
