Taiwan Quick Take: Pineapple cakes promoted

Following the Taipei beef noodle festival, which boosted the popularity of the traditional Taiwanese dish, the city government is planning to promote another Taiwanese food -- pineapple cakes. Pleased by the success of the beef noodle festival last September, which attracted more than 200,000 people to visit the official Web site to vote for their favorite beef noodle shops and helped boost the shops' business, Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) promised to hold a similar festival to promote the traditional snacks. "I'd love to help promote the snacks ? I think sales will rise if the bakeries put in more creativity and make pineapple cakes in various shapes and fillings," he said on Tuesday.
