Taiwan Quick Take: I'll bid for Olympics: Hsieh
Monday, Jun 19, 2006, Page 3
Frank Hsieh (Áªø§Ê), the Democratic Progressive Party's (DPP) candidate for Taipei mayor, announced a key campaign promise yesterday, claiming that if elected, he will work to win for the city the right to host the 2020 Olympic Games. Hsieh secured the right for Kaohisung to host the 2009 World Games when he was mayor of the southern port city. During a hiking activity in suburban Taipei, Hsieh claimed that Taiwan has "too much politics and too few sports," which he said are "very apolitical." By launching an Olympic bid for Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, he said, the nation's people will have a common goal that will keep them from political bickering.
