Taiwan Quick Take: Summer festival begins

The Taipei City Cultural Affairs Department yesterday announced the launch of the 2006 Eternal Summer Arts Festival, inviting all residents to participate. The festival combines four previously separate events -- the Taipei Children's Arts Festival, the 2006 Formoz Festival, the Taipei Film Festival, and the International Jazz Festival -- into one summer-long event. The Taipei Film Festival will run from June 24 until July 9 with films shown at four different venues around the city. The Taipei Children's Arts Festival will take place between July 15 and Aug. 12 at the Da-an Forest Park. The 2006 Formoz Festival, a gathering of bands and artists from both Taiwan and abroad, will be held from July 28 to July 30 and involve three days of concerts at the Taipei Children's Recreation Center. The performances will feature artists such as Super Furry Animals from the UK and Aikawa Nanase from Japan. The International Jazz Festival will also occur at the Da-an Forest Park between July 23 and Aug. 4, Commissioner Liao Hsien-hao (廖咸浩) said. Liao added that combining all the festivals into one big event would attract more people.
