The Ministry of National Defense (MND) will hold an open house at Taichung Port and the Chung Cheng Armed Forces Preparation School in Kaohsiung to display one of the navy's submarines and other equipment. In Taichung, the navy will invite the public to view one of its Guppy class submarines and one of its Perry class frigates at the Taichung Port from 9am to 4pm, today through Wednesday. Those interested in boarding the vessels must register on the MND's Web site. Registration is limited and the deadline is 5pm on the day prior to a visit. Only 900 visitors will be allowed to board the submarine each day. Whoever registers for the submarine tour must carry a photo ID with them in order to board the vessel. Meanwhile, the school in Kaohsiung will be opened to the public from 6:30am to 4pm today. Various types of helicopters and weapons will be displayed, and there will be performances by marching bands and marines.
The Taipei Department of Health yesterday said it has launched a probe into a restaurant at Far Eastern Sogo Xinyi A13 Department Store after a customer died of suspected food poisoning. A preliminary investigation on Sunday found missing employee health status reports and unsanitary kitchen utensils at Polam Kopitiam (寶林茶室) in the department store’s basement food court, the department said. No direct relationship between the food poisoning death and the restaurant was established, as no food from the day of the incident was available for testing and no other customers had reported health complaints, it said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
